With another week in the books, things continue to be as confusing as ever. Teams that we thought were solidifying themselves as ones that can challenge the best, like Arizona, gum up the works by losing. Other teams like WSU continue to make it difficult to keep them out of the cellar. With that in mind, lets see how I would rank them.
1. California (4-1)Cal had a bye this week so there was no cause to drop them from the top spot, although USC made it very difficult with their play this week. Cal will have a big test next week as they try and hold on to the top spot for three straight weeks. This week?
@ Arizona.2. Southern Cal (4-1)There is little dispute as to who is #2 this week. USC had an utterly dominant performance against ASU, shutting them out for the first time since October 30, 2004, when they lost 27-0 to Cal. The only thing hurting USC's chances to move up is the fact that they play Washington State next week, and if Cal beats Arizona, that would clearly be a bigger win. This week?
Washington State.3. Oregon (5-2)Oregon moves up to #3 this week despite a fairly week performance against a less than spectacular UCLA team in Eugene. Oregon is going to need to really step up their game if they are going to avoid another couple losses. the bye week should help get them healthy and refocused. This week?
BYE.4. Oregon State (3-3)OSU continues to have the same issues. They are awfully good at home, but are less than great on the road. This bodes well for Oregon State considering they get Cal and Oregon at home. Still, they get ASU and Arizona on the road and both of those teams also play very good at home. This week?
Washington.5. Stanford (4-3)Stanford is another one of those teams that play pretty well at home and not so good on the road. their schedule doesn't favor their home games as much, plus they are pretty much an average team, which is why they continue to sit between #4 and #6 in my poll every week. This week?
@ UCLA.6. Arizona (4-2)Arizona is a real anomaly. These guys play like world beaters one week, and like chumps the next. Maybe its a Stoops thing. I can't say i was disappointed to see these guys lose to Stanford and Oklahoma get rolled by Texas too. This week?
California.7. UCLA (2-4)Well, UCLA lost by just a touchdown in Eugene. Either UCLA is getting better or Oregon is getting worse. For now, I think I'll give UCLA the benefit of the doubt and move them up a spot to #7. This week?
@ Stanford.8. Arizona State (2-4)ASU is looking very marginal these days. They seem to be competitive at home but not so much on the road. To add, their offense seems to be getting worse, not better. Maybe the week off will get these guys on track.
This week?
BYE.9. Washington (0-5)I know, I know, I intimated that wouldn't move UW out of the #10 slot until they won a game but c'mon, did you see that Oregon State/ Wazzu game last week? Fear not, my Cougar brethren, UW gets the opportunity to get rolled against Oregon State this week, so who knows, they might flip again next week. This week?
Oregon State.10. Washington State (1-6)Well, in light of Washington State's stellar 66-13 loss at the hands of Oregon State, the cougars are once again the most inept team in the Pac 10... just barely beating UW out, as UW looked fairly good this last week, as they didn't lose against BYE. Still, Wazzu might be staying at #10 for a couple weeks as they are likely to lose by a similar margin in their next game.
This week?
