Well, Week 8 proved to be another to humble us as prognosticators. Last week, we all picked USC to beat Notre Dame, either out of intelligence or out of our blatent dislike for Notre Dame football. No matter, 31-0 later, and we were all proven right. On the other hand, all of us picked Arizona to take out Stanford, and nearly all of us took Cal over UCLA. Easy choices, right? In the immortal words of Lee Corso, "NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS".... They both lost.
So where does this leave us in our little corner of the world? The star last week was 2*2*2, who continued his assault towards the leader board with a 3-1 week. EVERYBODY else was either 2-2 or 1-3 last week. Nuff said.
Unfortunately, due to the limitations and interest in accuracy, Kegger56 was dropped from the contest, due to missing another week. Kegger, we still encourage you to pick 'em for fun. You can't help it if you have a life, my friend.
Here's the new leader board...
1. ThaiCoug.......................................................39-11 (78.0%) Big suprise!
2. 00Dawg..........................................................37-13 (74.0%) No Change.
3. Frogmenrule.................................................34-12 (73.9%)
4T. Kenber, Trojan Backer................................36-14 (72.0%)
6. GoDawgs!.......................................................31-13 (70.4%)
7T. Three tied....................................................35-15 (70.0%)
(DM14, Coug LJ, demondog)
10. Hey4hawks...................................................28-13 (68.3%)
11T. Six tied........................................................34-16 (68.0%)
(Global, Waltham, Dawgfan, 2*2*2, Drake, Bow Down)
17T. Three tied..................................................33-17 (66.0%)
(ChiDawg, Schuurmercoug, Paul)
20. Okfan............................................................22-19 (53.7%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now on to our own little version of Separation Saturday. Week 9 is going to have some incredibly difficult matchups, and while I won't completly dismiss the possibility of a 5-0 week, I would say that 0-5 is much more likely...
Arizona @ Washington
Stanford @ Oregon State
California @ Arizona State
Southern Cal @ Oregon
UCLA @ Washington State
I'll be curious where the even picks lie, but the game of the week as far as quality is certain to be the Showdawn in Eugene between Oregon and USC.
The next week could seal the victory for thaicoug, or he could find himself out of first place.
Good luck... we're all gonna need it!
